Surface Effects¶
Surface effects refer to the phenomena that occur on the interface of two different phases, usually liquid—gas, due to the difference in forces that the surface molecules experience relative to the molecules within the bulk of the fluid. They are responsible for the formation of droplets, bubbles, menisci, etc.
The surface energy is related to the energy of the formation of the interface. Physical systems tend to minimize surface energy, thus creating surface tension.
