Elasticity

Elasticity is the ability of a body to resist a distorting influence and to return to its original size and shape when that influence or force is removed, in contrast to plasticity where the object does not return to the original shape.

Linear elasicity refers to a type of elasticity when the relationship between stress and (infinitesimal) strain can be described with linear equations.
