Supersonic Flow

In general, supersonic speed refers to the speed of an object that exceeds the speed of sound. In fluid dynamics, a dimensionless quantity called Mach number represents the ratio of fluid velocity to the local speed of sound. Its value can be used to determine whether or not the flow can be treated as incompressible, which usually occurs when the Mach number is no more than \(0.2 - 0.3\).
