Thermodynamics (Condensed Matter)

This module is primarily related to the calculation of heat capacity of classical and quantum solids.

The most basic law, know as Dulong—Petit law, states that the molar heat capacity stays constant for temperatures far from absolute zero; however the application of this law depends on the material and the range of temperatures in question.

Models based on quantum harmonic oscillators, such as the Debye model and the Einstein solid model significantly improve the classical result.
