Microcanonical Ensemble

The microcanonical ensemble is a statistical ensemble whose total energy is fixed. Since the energy of the ensemble cannot fluctuate, it essentially means that the system is isolated from the outside environment.

It is also referred to as the \(NVE\) ensemble because the probability of the states in it depends on the number \(N\) of particles, the volume \(V\) of the system, and the total energy \(E\) of the system.
