Maxwell—Boltzmann Statistics¶

The Maxwell—Boltzmann distribution is a probability distribution used for describing speeds of ideal gas particles (atoms or molecules), i.e. they do not interact between each other except for brief collisions when the exchange of energy and momentum occurs.
