Bohr Model

The Bohr model is an obsolete model of the atom that incorporated some early quantum concepts. The idea is that the atom consists of a small, dense atomic nucleus surrounded by orbiting electrons. Among other postulates, it assumed the following:

  • The atom can only absorb or radiate discrete amounts of energy, which in turn is proportional to the frequency of absorbed or radiated light.

  • The electrons still obey ordinary mechanics in stationary orbits.
