Efflux speed via pressure and density

The speed of a fluid flowing out from a small orifice can be expressed as a function of the fluid’s hydrostatic pressure and density.

Conditions:

  1. The orifice is very small relative to the horizontal cross-section of the container.

  2. The fluid is ideal.

efflux_speed

Speed of the fluid flowing out of the pipe.

Symbol:

v

hydrostatic_pressure

Hydrostatic pressure of the fluid.

Symbol:

p

density

Density of the fluid.

Symbol:

rho

Latex:

\(\rho\)

law

v = sqrt(2 * p / rho)

Latex:
\[v = \sqrt{\frac{2 p}{\rho}}\]
